World O:250 Championship

Kriebstein, Germany (6th - 7th August)

The World O:250 Championship is a one round event comprising of four races with the best three counting to the overall position. It is open to all drivers from around the world.

The 2016 UIM O:250 World Championship was held in Kriebstein, Germany. With this circuit being tight in places the starting grid for the races was restricted to just 12 boats. This meant qualifying would be important, with the 9 fastest boats automatically qualifying for the finals and avoiding having to go through the qualifying heat race. Wayne posted the equal fifth fastest time in qualifying, tied with James Aderholdt. Because Aderholdt posted the time first he got 5th sport on the starting grid with Wayne 6th, but most importantly Wayne had automatically qualified through to the final races. Pole position went to Peter Bodor with Alessandro Cremona second and Daniele Frontoni third. In the first race Wayne got off to a good start and was in the top three on the way to the first turn. However has he went round the first turn the boat fell into a 'hole' in the water nearly rolling over, with the boat coming to a stop because of the amount of water that had entered the engine. The win went to Bodor, with Mario Alex second and Massimo Rossi third. The DNF in race one meant Wayne had to start from the back of the grid for race two, however he made a good start and exited the first turn in 5th, the position he would maintain to the finish. The win this time went to Rossi with Bodor second and Frontoni third. Wayne again got a good start in the third race and finished in third position. The win went to Rossi with Alex second. The fourth and final didn't go to plan with engine gremlins setting in. The engine bogged down at the start and Wayne exited the first turn well down the field and his recovery through the field was hampered by the engine not performing to the maximum. However he did manage to cross the line in third, with Rossi taking the win and Aderhodlt finishing second. In the final rankings the gold medal went to Massimo Rossi with maximum points, with the 2015 champion Peter Bodor taking silver and Mario Alex bronze. Wayne finished in fourth position just 24 points short of third!

European F:250 Championship

The European F:250 Championship is a three round series for the 250cc Outboard Hydroplanes. Round 1 is in Boretto, Italy (14th - 15th May), Round 2 is in Baja, Hungary (2nd - 3rd July) and Round 3 is in Ternopol, Ukraine (27th - 28th August).

Round 1 - Baja, Hungary (2nd - 3rd July)

At the first round of the UIM F:250 European championship held at Baja, Hungary Wayne qualified in 3rd position, pole went to Peter Bodor with Massimo Rossi in second. In the first race Wayne got a good start and exited the first turn second behind Rossi, however the race was stopped because of a first turn incident further down the field. Wayne again made a good start in the restarted race and again excited the first turn in second close behind Bodor. Going round the second turn Wayne's vision was blocked by the spray coming from Bodor's boat in front and when the view cleared he was heading straight for the turn marker. With no other option he had to turn inside the marker, which would result in a one lap penalty. Wayne crossed the line at the end of the race in third but the one lap penalty for going inside the turn maker meant he finished in a disappointing 6th place. Bodor took the win with Rossi second and David Loukotka third. The weather on the second day took a turn for the worse and no racing took place because of the high winds. This meant Wayne was unable to improve on his race one position and the overall result was decided on the result of the first race alone. The next round will take place on the 27th - 28th August at Ternopol, Ukraine.

Round 2 - Ternopol, Ukraine (27th - 28th August)

Wayne was unable to attend the event because of work commitments. The win went to Massimo Rossi with Peter Bodor second and Rasmus Haugasmagi third. The third and final round of the championship is the rescheduled Boretto event which will take place on the 8th - 9th October

Round 3 - Boretto, Italy (8th - 9th October)

The final round of the championship was cancelled because of a fatal accident that occurred during a German National championship round the week before. This means that Massimo Rossi was crowned (posthumously) UIM F:250 European Champion, with Peter Bodor taking the silver medal and Mario Alex bronze.
